Several people choose cremation for their loved one and also for their pet. Many feel that cremation is a quick way to release the soul to the other side and for many the other side is heaven. This thought is very comforting to us and allows to us to feel a sense of peace within ourselves.
When one of our pet passes away we have to make an important decision as to the type of cremation that we wish to choose for our beloved pet. Unlike for a human cremation we have three different ways to cremate our pets.
1. Communal Cremation
Should you wish not to have your pets cremated remains returned to you, you would then choose what is called Communal Cremation. If this is the cremation of your choice your pet will be cremated with several animals at the same time and the cremated remains will be interred or scattered in a common area. It would not be possible to have your pets cremated remains returned to you should you wish to change your mind.
If you want to have your pets cremated remains returned then you have two options to select from.
2. Individual or Segregated Cremation
With this type of cremation your pet will be placed in the cremation chamber with other animals at the same time with barriers dividing each pet. During this process the crematorium operator will segregate each animal carefully and have each pet also well marked as to the position that they are located in the chamber. Once the cremation is completed the ashes of each animal are removed one by one taking care to not to blend the remains.
3. Private Cremation
With this type of cremation only your pet will be placed in the cremation chamber. If you wish, you can also witness this cremation. The witnessing can be done either in person, and with some crematoriums, they will also allow the witnessing to be done online in the comfort of your own home surrounded by your family and friends. To some people the witnessing gives them a sense of closure and peace feeling that they were with their pet until the end.
Making the decision in choosing which type of cremation is very important to everyone involved. It is a sense of closure and it is very much part of the grieving process. If everyone is comfortable with the decision then everyone can start the grieving process on the right foot.
As difficult of a topic this is it is a very important topic for everyone in the family to discuss when you may be facing the loss of your pet. Being together as a family during this difficult time is very important.
